For ABC’s “Nashville” star NICK JANDL, life is imitating art these days.

Jandl (pronounced YON-dle) currently stars on the soapy, country music-tinged primetime hit as ‘Dr. Caleb Rand,’ a good guy doctor out of Manhattan who arrived in Nashville and soon found himself in a relationship with Clare Bowen’s young starlet ‘Scarlett.’ A native of Massachusetts, Jandl can relate to his role in more ways than one: he comes from a long family line of doctors and physicians, and was a pre-med Biology major himself before he took an Acting 101 class and caught the bug.

As a northeasterner who shoots in Tennessee on the “Nashville” set, Jandl knows what it’s like for both himself and his character feeling “like a fish out of water; ‘Caleb’ is from a different world, going from a fast-paced lifestyle in Manhattan to the country music scene of Nashville – it was like when I moved out to LA. People are friendlier, things move slower and you’re forced to slow down and relax.”

While fans of “Nashville” see their chemistry on-screen every week – the Twitterverse has dubbed the couple “#Scarland” – Jandl loves the working relationship and friendship with his co-star Clare Bowen, who he claims is “a geek like me – in between takes there’s such a natural fun energy with us.” Jandl also loves shooting in Nashville because of his own musical talents – he can play the piano, drums and saxophone – and takes in the local scene whenever he can.

As far as the brewing love triangle between his ‘Caleb,’ Clare’s ‘Scarlett’ and Sam Palladio’s ‘Gunnar,’ Jandl admits that his character can’t help but feel “a little wary about the history that ‘Scarlett’ and ‘Gunnar’ have; when you make music together as intimately as they did, that can stay with you – but ‘Caleb’ will definitely fight for his relationship!”

“Nashville” airs on Wednesday nights at 10pm on ABC, with new episodes returning April 1st.

In addition to his starring role on “Nashville,” Jandl has also guest-starred in such shows as “NCIS: Los Angeles,” “Law & Order,” “Hot in Cleveland,” and “Castle.” He played the brother of Ryan Reynolds in the Warner Bros film GREEN LANTERN, was a lead in the Hulu comedy series “The 4-to-9ers,” and has worked with such top comedy directors as Jamie Widdoes, Seth Gordon, and Andy Cadiff. He was also cast in a series regular role as the doctor son of Jamie Lee Curtis for a CBS pilot in 2014.

While studying acting at Tufts University after his pre-med switch, Jandl did student films and theatre and got his first credits doing extra work, most notably for the film 27 DRESSES, where he put his SCUBA certification to good use by appearing in an underwater photo shoot opposite lead Katherine Heigl. His wardrobe? Nothing but a speedo, bowtie, and SCUBA gear.

From Massachusetts, Jandl stopped in Chicago for a year to train with the renowned Second City improv group and also played ‘Oedipus’ on stage in a part that required him to learn over 500 lines. He arrived in LA with $800 to his name and crashed on a couch with a friend in a windowless, soundproof room for nine months before moving on to a comically awful Craigslist roommate experience. Soon after, he booked “NCIS: Los Angeles” and has gone onward and upward in his burgeoning acting career.

Hailing from the one-stoplight town of Williamstown in Massachusetts, Jandl was an outdoorsy youngster who enjoyed a small town New England upbringing in a family of accomplished doctors and artists. He got involved in music at an early age, learning to play various instruments in school and spending four consecutive summers in Maine attending a camp that heightened his musical training. Jandl attended Northfield Mount Hermon prep his junior and senior years of high school, where he played lead sax in the jazz band and was named to the prestigious All-New England soccer all-star team.

Jandl graduated from Tufts with a BA in Drama and 3/4s of an Environmental Studies degree. While there, he studied Ecology and Conservation abroad in Madagascar, a life-changing experience that laid the foundation for his support of environmental causes to this day. He is an avid fisherman and outdoorsman, a wannabe gourmet chef, and plays music wherever and with whomever he can.
